Clewiston United Way House

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is now offering mental health resources for clients in Clewiston. Thanks to a nearly $200,000 grant from the Hanley Foundation, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), the nonprofit agency opened its new United Way House on April 1.

Located inside the Hendry County Sub-Office, the new offices are staffed by a mental health resource specialist who assists clients in finding the right providers for their mental health needs. United Way Partner Agencies will also utilize the offices on off days to provide various other services.

Hanley Foundation is a full spectrum organization providing prevention, education, advocacy, treatment, and recovery support. They are headquartered in Palm Beach County, but currently provide services within 32 counties in Florida.

“Hanley Foundation believes that prioritizing the expansion of mental health resources isn’t just a necessity; it’s an act of compassion,” said Dr. Rachel Docekal CEO of Hanley Foundation. “By shedding light on mental health conditions and expanding treatment options, we pave the way for a world where individuals can thrive, and communities like Clewiston can flourish.”

Hanley received the Criminal Justice Mental Health Substance Abuse Implementation Grant from DCF several years ago. They then worked with Hendry County stakeholders and United Way for three years, determining the best way to implement the grant for mental health services.

United Way was awarded the three-year implementation grant which covers the cost of the office space as well as the salary for the full-time resource specialist. As the program sees success, three-year expansion grants can be applied for in the future.

“We are excited to be back in Clewiston,” said United Way of Hendry and Glades Manager Lisa Sands. “It has been four years since we have had office space there and our services are desperately needed. This will be a tremendous benefit to the community.”
