The Volunteer Center of United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades will be teaming up with Bell Tower and Lee Health Blood Center to host a Blood Drive to commemorate the life of late Fort Myers native, John Sheppard.
The event will be held on March 25, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm at Bell Tower in the west parking lot, located off Hwy 41. The Lee Health Blood Center Mobile Bus will be on site to collect the blood donations.
John Sheppard achieved the Guinness World Record in 2011, for whole blood donations, at 315 verified whole blood pints. By the time of his death in February of this year, he had donated more than 47 gallons, or 378 whole blood pints.
Your donation serves our community. Blood donations with Lee Health Blood Center remain in our four acute care hospitals: Cape Coral Hospital, Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center, and Gulf Coast Medical Center - which houses the only Trauma Center within a five-county radius. Blood also benefits patients at our specialty hospitals - Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida and the Rehabilitation Hospital - as well as patients receiving treatment at the Regional Cancer Center and Lee Health Coconut Point. The blood used for patient care has to be continuously replenished to maintain a constant blood supply. This means our blood centers need a total of 800 donors a week.
Walk-ups are welcome, but if you would like to make a reservation, please call Heidi Moore-Hart: 239.343.2547
